As Senior class president, Abby started off the school year full throttle. She was so busy. She had to plan a lot of activities right at the start of the year. She spent a lot of time even during the summer to get things ready for the school year. She had to plan and organize the senior sunrise which is a breakfast that the seniors go to early in the morning. They meet at the school football field, have breakfast, and do activities that Abby planned. She took this cute picture with some of the church girls - Amelia, Addie, Abby, Braelinn, and Anna. They also wrote letters to their future selves and released balloons. All the kids said it was a fun activity and that it went really well.
Abby was in charge of their cougar cage instagram page. She decided on the spirit days for sporting events, like the dress up themes for football and volleyball games. Once I was on the field at a football game helping the band and I was able to get a picture of Abby in the student section. It was the Hawaiian football game, but she looked so happy (if you can find her). Most games Abby had to go late because football games were always the same night as volleyball games. But Abby was always good about attending as much as she could and definitely participating in the dress up themes. Here are some pictures of Abby on their fall picture day. So pretty!
She's so beautiful - inside and out. I love how confident she is and willing to step up and be a leader. Everyone at the school that knows her, loves her. She's well liked by the students and the staff. She's such a great girl. One Sunday in September, the girls sang in sacrament meeting. I took a picture as they practiced, but I love that they all like to sing together. We usually have some arguments as they decide who gets to sing what parts, but by the time they perform, they've worked it all out, and they sound lovely together.
The girls color-coordinated on another Sunday and it was so pretty, I had to have a picture.

Aubrey's dance team got together at Carrie's house to have a get together as the start of the school year. The Vortex dance team is the middle school dance team that Aubrey is part of. She made it for the second year in a row in its second year of existence. These girls always have so much fun together. They love to dance and love to hang out.
At the start of the year, students in the 5th grade can campaign for student body government positions. Taryn decided to run for Vice President just like Tessa and Aubrey. She made posters using the catch phrase "She's not a Karen, Vote 4 Taryn." She thought it was hilarious and so did her friends.
With the beginning of school comes football season and homecoming season. Tessa decided she wanted a mum even though she wouldn't go to homecoming with a date. Mums are big in Texas and I like to make them myself. You can buy them but they get really expensive, so if you know what you're doing, you can save a lot of money by making your own. Abby and Tessa were both actually ok with me repurposing Abby's mum from last year to make one for Tessa. We just removed the volleyball details and added band and running trinkets. My favorite part was the fact that I was able to turn "Rand" (Abby's date from last year) into "Band." I thought it was so clever. And overall, it turned out great and Tessa loved it!
One of the reasons Abby was ok with us using her mum for Tessa was because seniors always have white mums. I made Abby's from scratch. Our friend, Kristina, did a lot of the prep work for the senior girls and we got together one night and got all the pieces to make our own mums. I worked on Abby's myself, but Abby helped with parts too and it turned out really good. We did volleyball stuff and Stuco stuff and definitely had to have Sr class president stuff. By the time we were finished, Abby loved it.
On Homecoming day, everyone wears their mums all day long. I was able to find the girls outside the band hall to get a picture of them together wearing the mums. Abby was actually nominated by her volleyball coach to be considered for the homecoming court. Once students are nominated by teachers, the students vote to determine who actually makes the court. All grade levels vote for the senior court and the top four boys and girls make the court and the winner is announced at the football game. Abby was voted in and had so many activities leading up to homecoming as a part of the court. I was so happy for her. She had so much fun. One day everyone dressed up as royalty and Abby had an actual crown and sash that she got to wear as part of the court. I love that we all get to go home for lunch, so I took a picture of the girls when we were home for lunch together on this dress up day.
The homecoming parade is a big deal leading up to the big game. Aubrey and her dance team got to march in the parade as well. They performed as they walked and Tyler totally embarrassed Aubrey by cheering so loud for her as they passed us. She was laughing so hard, and everyone kept turning to see who was yelling and cheering so loud for Aubrey.
As a part of the court, Abby was coupled with a boy and got to ride in the back of a car. She had to dress up fancy and wear her crown and sash. I found her and Tessa before the parade began after dropping off Aubrey. Tessa marched with the band, so I was able to find her and some of her friends for a picture before they started marching too. Here she is with Andrew, Gisele, and Nicholas.
We stood at our usual corner to watch the parade with a lot of the families from church. It was fun. Taryn and Teagan were excited to try and gather as much candy as possible. Tessa and Gisele marched by with their tenors. Tessa was most nervous about the parade on tenors because that is a long time to go wearing that heavy instrument. But all of their summer workouts paid off because Tessa said she was able to march and play the entire time without resting or taking a break. She said when they finished she was even ready to go again! I took a picture of the senior float because Abby was in charge of it. We had the trailer parked in front of our house for like a week and Tyler had to haul it to and from Franklin so other senior students could help decorate it. Abby was a little sad that she didn't get to be on the float but since she was on the court, she couldn't be on the senior float, the volleyball float, the CDL float, or the Stuco float. She's so involved, she had many opportunities to be in the parade even if she weren't on the court!
For all of the homecoming court festivities, Abby was paired with Noah Vick. They were in the parade car together that Noah's dad drove. They thought they were going to be in a convertible, but the car rental places were all out, so they had to settle for a jeep. I liked it better because they were higher up and could be seen easier as they drove the parade route. Everyone at our corner knew Abby and cheered so loud for her. She threw out a ton of candy.
Everyone was sending pictures to me that they had taken when they saw Abby pass by them. Noah's stepmom, Lillie McIntosh, is a teacher at Lundy with me (and was Abby's 3rd and 5th grade teacher), so we had fun discussing plans for the kids and she got some cute pictures of them before the parade began.
During the school day, they had an assembly and pep rally and they announced the court again there. Abby had to wear a different dress, but she was still paired with Noah. I didn't get to attend the assembly, but she did send me some pictures that she had taken because she knew I'd want them.
Tessa sent me a picture from the assembly as well. She and the drumline were at all of the same homecoming events to help cheer on the students and team.
The homecoming game was a little stressful. Abby had a volleyball game on the east side of town and ended up having to leave it early to make it back in time for the half time presentation. Abby changed in the car as we rushed back to Franklin, and we made it with plenty of time to line up for the actual homecoming presentation. The four girls and boys on the senior court, who have been doing all of the activities, were to be presented with their parents as they walked down the football field. We took a lot of pictures while we waited as the band and drill team performed. These are the girls who were on the court with Abby. It was Kayla, Andrea, Abby, and Kaylee. The moms also had to get a picture of their foot gear under their fancy gowns. They weren't allowed to wear high heels on the astroturf, but they all chose the comfy route and wore the cutest shoes.
Tyler and I were there to be presented with Abby. She got to write her own acknowledgments that they announced while we walked down the field. It talked about her involvement in volleyball, as a teacher in the CDL program, and of all her involvement in student council. We were just so proud of her and it was fun to walk her down the field and to be cheered on by everyone.
They had photographers taking pictures too and this was one Abby found of us as we walked down the field. It was a great picture and I love Abby's beautiful smile.
We all stood in a semicircle as they made the announcement from 4th place and up. Abby was not called for 4th place or 3rd place. She was in the running for homecoming queen, but they called her first so she ended up 2nd place and was titled Homecoming Princess. Kayla, her friend from cross country, actually won. The second place boy was Diego Flores, also from cross country. Since they were homecoming prince and princess, I got a picture of them together. He was very kind to let me take their picture. So cute.
The homecoming dance was the following night. Abby and Tessa went with friends, not dates. I was happy that they got to go together. I took a lot of pictures and loved them all. We also went to a friend's house and took pictures with more girls. Abby and her best friend, Braelinn, took a lot of pictures together and this one was my favorite.
Abby picked out her own dress from online and Tessa borrowed a dress from another young woman in the stake. I loved how their dresses were such bright colors and complemented each other well.
They even got me in a picture or two. The sunset was pretty for our outdoor pictures.
Tessa is a beauty. As a sophomore and not yet 16, she didn't have a date for homecoming, but going with her sister and friends was a better option anyway.
Abby's senior year - no homecoming date, but she was ok with that. She didn't want the pressure of a date and she didn't like anyone enough to feel like she should have a date. She was happy to be with Tessa and her friends.
The girls went out to eat together before heading to the dance. It was Braelinn, Abby, Tessa, and Maddie. I loved how their bright colors looked together.

And finally, some final pictures. Tessa always complains about her smile, but I love it. This goofy picture turned out really cute and we even used it on the family calendar this year. I love Tessa's happy, bubbly face and long flowy hair. And here's a picture from football season. Me with Aubrey and Taryn as we cheered on the football team and helped with Franklin band activities. We love football (and marching band) season.
