March, Part 1 - Programs and Performances

With concerts, spring break, a birthday, and full weekends, March had to be split up into two posts. We started the month with quite a few concerts and performances. Abby's band performed at a contest the same night that we got tickets to see Dancing with the Stars Live. I helped with the band before they got on the bus to drive to Burges High School, so I took a few pictures of Abby with her friends.

They played really well and got Sweepstakes, all ones. Abby said they messed up, but from the audience, I thought it sounded great. Because they were the final band performing, we even got to hear them perform their sightreading number. Usually, that's done without an audience. It was cool to hear and watch as Mrs. Allen instructed them on the number and then listen to them play it for the first and only time. They did well. I had picked up Kristina, Braelinn's mom, and Amelia, Abby's friend because as soon as they were finished, we left to drive straight down town to the Dancing with the Stars Show.

We got into the theater right as the performance started. The problem was we had really good seats, in the middle; so we had to walk in front of a lot of people to get to our seats. Luckily we hadn't missed very much and it was so fun to see the dances and recognize the people that we see on tv. They had two hosts this year on their tour, Frankie Muniz and Jordan Fisher.

Abby and Braelinn are huge fans of the show and this was one of Abby's Christmas presents. She was very excited to come. Braelinn and her mom had gone to their show last year and were happy to come again. My parents were originally going to come as well, but my dad ended up having a concert the same night, so Abby invited her friend Amelia to join us.

During the intermission, we took pictures of our group. The girls had so much and we all laughed at the people around us who were cheering just as loudly as we were. It was a lot of fun.

The stage set up was pretty cool with two levels and a huge screen that was used for a backdrop and also for showing clips of interviews and practice sessions of the tour. We really had a fun time.

After the performance, we waited in line so the girls could buy t-shirts. They had this sign near the line so we took some pictures to remember our night and the adventure. Abby loved it!

To give a little update on each girl, let's move to Tessa. On the first Saturday in March, Abby and Tyler drove to Albuquerque to go to the temple with the youth. Aubrey and Taryn had play dates, so that just left me and Tessa. We decided to do a ladies lunch. My dad had gone with the youth as well, so we called Grandma and went out to lunch together. Tessa originally asked for a place like Peter Piper Pizza or Chuck E. Cheese, but I told her we were doing a ladies lunch so she got to enjoy what the older ladies do when we go out to eat. We picked Crave which had a yummy brunch menu. Tessa picked the apple pie pancakes and we were all surprised by how huge they were. We had a fun time together.

I love this picture. Aubrey was a little sad at the time because she was feeling left out while everyone else on the street was playing together. The sun was shining right on her and she looked so serious that I wanted a picture. I love this girl.

And finally, Taryn. While Tessa and I went to lunch, Taryn went to a birthday party for Kate. Kate's mom, Lisa, sent me this picture from the party after the girls had finished making their own necklaces. They also had painted their own artwork pieces on a canvas. Taryn said she had so much fun.

One night, Taryn also had some friends over, and they begged me to let them paint, so we set up the art table and they each made a masterpiece.

After Abby's and my outing to the Dancing with the Stars show, it was the other girls' turn. The following week we had tickets to the BYU Ballet Theater which was in town. Abby had volleyball practice so it was just the three girls and I. We went to dinner with some friends before we headed to the performance, but I had to laugh because all the other moms only had one daughter that they were enjoying the evening with. It was more like a regular outing for me since I still had the majority of my children. But the girls had fun dressing up and hanging out with friends.

We got to the auditorium with plenty of time for pictures and to say hi to everyone we knew there. Because it was the BYU Ballet, there were a ton of members there who we knew from our ward and stake. I had the Williams who were sitting behind us take a picture of all of us with the stage behind us.

I also took pictures with each of the girls. They were all so excited to be there. We took a lot of group pictures before the performance began. Here are the pictures of just us.

And here are the pictures of our group that ate dinner together. First, all the moms: Niki, me, Jessica, Damaris, Kristina, and Amanda.

And then all the girls. Damaris had them all pose like ballerinas and it turned out so cute!

It was hard to take pictures of the performance without a flash, but here is one of the final moments when everyone was on the stage. They did two dancing numbers before their big number which was a carnival of the animals. It was fun to see the dancers dressed up like animals and see them in their beautiful costumes.

Luckily after the performance, the dancers were in the lobby so we could take pictures with them. The big bear was the funniest part of the performance. The girls thought it was a little creepy, although the best part was hearing the girl talk from inside it and Aubrey going, "I didn't know it was a girl in there!" The monkeys were some of my favorites.

This first picture has the jester, the swan, and one of the seahorses, which was some of the girls' favorites. The second picture is of the dancer who played one of the children, but this particular dancer was also the owl which was my favorite animal and costume.

Taryn had to find the peacocks because she had made a mask that was a peacock and she wanted to show the dancers that mask. She was so excited to get her picture taken with them. They were so sweet and happily complimented Taryn on her awesome mask.

To finish off the first half of March, we head back to Abby. She had her school concert where they played their contest numbers again. They sounded really good again. It's fun hearing the numbers more than once, because I know when the good French horn parts are coming and I love listening to Abby play.

The first weekend in March, their tournament was on a Sunday, so Abby did not get to play. However, it worked out for her because that was when she went to Albuquerque for the temple, so we were happy she didn't have to miss that temple trip. The next weekend, we were back at volleyball again. They always do really well in the pool play ending up usually in first place which sends them to the gold bracket for tournament play. However, they seem to not do as well there. They usually win the first game and sometimes the second, but they never quite make it to the championship game. They always play hard and it is still fun to watch them play. I remembered to get just a few pictures during their games. I really like the first picture because the camera focused in on the ball, so it looks pretty cool.

Our ward at church had their annual Christmas party in mid-December. The youth were asked to do some musical numbers. All of the youth sang ...
