December 2021, Part 1-Aubrey’s Dance Recitals & Concerts, Ward Christmas Party

Aubrey's school dance team, Vortex, had their first dance showcase at the beginning of December. Her teacher, Ms. Crouse, had a dance recital for all of her dance classes. Aubrey's dance team performed twice, but also prepared small group numbers to perform as well. Aubrey and her friend, Carrie, did a duet. They picked their own music and outfits and choreographed the entire dance themselves. Carrie and Aubrey found these white dresses for their duet. I took a picture of them before the recital started.

Their duet was one of the first numbers. Everyone loved it and cheered really loudly. It was a contemporary piece and the girls did a lovely job.

The Vortex team performed a number to the song Mona Lisa. It was beautiful and my favorite number of the night. Aubrey's in the black dress on the right side of these pictures. Aubrey said she was having some tiny panic attacks leading up to these performances, but her friends on the team were very supportive and kind. I was very proud of her that she still went on with each of the performances and did a great job.

They are learning a number for competition, so they performed a portion of that piece as well. It's a contemporary number and it looks beautiful.

All of the dance classes and the dance team came out for a finale number at the end of the night. The dance team was the center of the group and were the highlight of the night. It was fun to watch all of the students from the dance classes and for all of them to see the dance team and the hard work they put into their performances.

Tyler and I got Aubrey some flowers for after the show and so did Abby and Tessa. I took a picture of Aubrey with her flowers. She was so happy with how they did and she was feeling a lot better after the night was over.

The following weekend was another dance recital. This one was at Coronado High School and was for all of Coronado's dance classes and included their dance team who performed multiple numbers. They invited Hornedo to come and perform, so they were the only middle school group of the evening. I took this picture of Aubrey before we left for the evening. She looked so pretty. She's so grown up. She does her own hair and makeup, and I just love her so much.

They performed their Mona Lisa dance, and they did the same show two nights in a row, so we saw it the second night they performed. It was really good. All of the numbers were connected to an art piece and the entire night was designed to seem like you were touring an art museum. The announcer would talk about an art piece as it was displayed on the back wall of the stage and then the group or team would dance their interpretation of that art piece; hence, the Mona Lisa number. It was a really fun show. On their finale number, each performing group came out on the stage to take their bows. Aubrey was the leader of their dance team, so she was on the very side of the stage as they took their bows.

It was so great to see them perform on the same stage as some really amazing high school groups. They did a great job. We took a picture of the entire team after the performances that second night. They had a lot of fun and it was an honor to be able to perform on the high school stage.

Aubrey's Christmas band concert was in December. They played Christmas music and it sounded great. They also had their Fine Arts night where the band plays with the orchestra and choir. They each perform a few numbers on their own and then they play a couple all together. One of the flute players was out sick, so Aubrey was 2nd chair for that performance. She was so happy to be first part. I love to hear her play.

Our ward Christmas party was a winter wonderland theme. We had dinner and activities outside in the pavilion at the church. It was fun. There was a snow ball fight using Bahama Bucks snowballs and fire pits for s'mores. They catered soups from Olive Garden and there was so much food. The kids got to make and decorate gingerbread houses that were judged by Santa. Here are Tessa's and Taryn's creations. Tessa's gingerbread house ended up being Santa's favorite.

The kids got to see Santa, but Taryn was the only one of my girls who wanted to have her picture taken with Santa. They did a nativity and Aubrey was asked to play Mary. Her friend, Aaron, was asked to be Joseph, so they teased each other and were good sports to be the actors and stand in front of everyone while we all sang Christmas songs while the nativity story was read.

The rest of the kids asked to be in the nativity were excited to be a part of the "play." I took a picture of everyone together. "Baby Jesus" was even happy long enough for Aubrey to hold him for the picture. It was a really good activity and everyone had a lot of fun. It was a great way to great ready for the Christmas season.

My final picture is of Abby with her friends at Braelinn's birthday party which was a murder mystery party from the Titanic. They had a lot of fun and I loved how this picture turned out. Abby has a great group of friends from school and church. They do all kinds of activities together and they're just so great for Abby. Great friends and good company.
